set size: 198 cards (before Secret Rares)

Set Abbreviation: SVI

Below is a list of cards that comprises our first set for the Scarlet & Violet era, Scarlet & Violet base set, when it releases on 31 March 2023. The set will be legal for tournament play on 14 April 2023.

The chase card mechanic for Scarlet & Violet will be Pokémon ex, a callback to the original Pokémon ex first introduced in EX Ruby & Sapphire. Like the original Pokémon ex and Pokémon-GX, Pokémon ex evolve from non-Rule Box Pokémon. Pokémon ex give up two prize cards when they are Knocked Out. Pokémon has also stated that “an important theme of the Scarlet & Violet Series is ‘comebacks,’” and that they plan to introduce “Pokémon, Trainer cards, and Energy cards that can turn the tide of the battle.”

Because much about the Scarlet & Violet legendaries had not yet been revealed when this mechanic was revealed, the cards as originally-revealed concealed information, including their stage, type, and HP.

Additionally, beginning with Scarlet & Violet’s release, all Pokémon Tool cards, including those released prior to Scarlet & Violet, are reclassified as their own subclass of Trainer cards and will no longer be considered Item cards.

Pokémon ex return in Scarlet & Violet!

Note the purple text in the top left corner denoting the card’s classification as a Tool card.

CARDS INTENTIONALLY EXCLUDED FROM LIST

The cards below may appear in a future set, as promo cards, or may see their release in some other way.
