A. One. It’s just me, JustInBasil—the very same redditor who created the first pdf version of the deck building guide that has since morphed into this entire website.

A. 3 June 2019

Q. So, about JustInBasil… is your name Justin, then? Or Basil?

A. No, neither. I chose the user name JustInBasil for my reddit account when I first created it on 2 April 2018. JustInBasil is a play on the phrase “just in time.” Just in time becomes “just in thyme” and since, in my opinion at least, basil is better than thyme, I swap in basil in thyme’s place. And with that convoluted little play on words, you end up with “just in basil!”

Q. I intend to reference you and/or your website on other media, like YouTube. How do I refer to you, since your name isn’t “Justin” or “Basil”? What pronouns do I use to refer to you?

“JustInBasil” is preferred, but shortening it to “Basil” is also fine. I use “he/him” as my pronouns by default, but “she/her” and “they/their” are fine, too. Anything respectful is fine.

Q. Are you on social media? Where can I follow you?

A. I’m on reddit, Twitter, Instagram, Discord, and YouTube. I may do more with Twitch in the future.

Q. What is your favorite Pokémon?

A. Bellossom, though Cramorant and Magneton are also strong contenders for the title. I love many Pokémon, of course, and I’ve tweeted a pic featuring many of my favorites.

Q. What is your favorite Eeveelution?

A. Either Sylveon or Umbreon, depending on when you ask me. I also really like Leafeon.

Q. Who is your favorite gym leader?

A. Erika. I also really like Jasmine, Tate & Liza, and Allister.

Q. Which generation has been your favorite?

A. I’ve loved all of the games for various reasons, but I think it’s fair to say that generation II has been my favorite. I loved Johto and the twist that Gold and Silver brought to the formula that Red and Blue started. HeartGold and SoulSilver only made Johto even better. I hope that one day Johto can get a game all on its own, without incorporating Kanto, so that it can be more fully realized and explored in the same way that the regions from other generations have enjoyed. That aside, my favorite recent games are definitely Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet. These games were a massive transitional step for the franchise and I had an absolute blast playing Pokémon Violet, even with its rough edges.

Q. Rank all of the generations, from favorite to least favorite.

A. That’s not a question, but sure. From most liked to least: 2 (Johto), 9 (Paldea), 1 (Kanto), 6 (Kalos), 7 (Alola), 3 (Hoenn), 4 (Sinnoh), 8 (Galar), and 5 (Unova). Just remember that “least liked” doesn’t mean that I don’t like it. Just that I like other generations more.

Q. If you were a gym leader, which type would your gym focus on? Which Pokémon would be your ace?

A. This is a bit of a hard question to answer. Either grass or ice. If I focused on grass, it would be Bellossom. If I focused on ice, it would be Alolan Ninetales.
